Wood looking up in B.C. and Canada

Just as the 12th to 15th contemporary tall wood buildings are nearing completion in Milan, Italy, Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) is throwing its support behind this important global initiative here at home. Targeted at developers, designers, and builders with wood building projects at least 10-storeys tall, the program will offer up to $5 million to proponents and design teams that can offer safe and viable approaches to designing and constructing high rise buildings using wood and engineered wood materials.

Recognized as the premier event in Canada dedicated to design and construction with wood and wood products, the 2012 Wood Solutions Fair in Vancouver experienced a record attendance of more than 1,100 architects, engineers, building designers, contractors, construction technologists, specifiers, students and professors, and wood products exhibitors.
B.C. Joins the Race to the Skyline
The announcement last month of the awarding of the contract to build a contemporary, 90-foot wood building in Prince George officially launches British Columbia into the race to build the world's first wood skyscraper.
PCL/MGA/Equilibrium Team Wins Wood Innovation and Design Centre Competition
Congratulations to the team including PCL West Coast Constructors, Michael Green Architecture, Equilibrium Consulting, B.R. Thorson Consulting and RDH Building Engineering for their winning submission. "Our WIDC design is repeatable, elegant and cost effective," explains Michael Green.
